The inspiration came from the space-efficient yet cramped Japanese capsule hotels. “When I started working on Bunk, refurbishing two old churches into luxury hostels, I knew I wanted pods,” says Hagedoorn. “But I wanted luxury pods. I wanted guests to have a premium experience at an excellent price, with sustainably produced, modular, durable, easy-to-install, and easy-to-clean pods.”
Turning this vision into reality wasn’t simple. It required over a year of searching, planning, testing, and refining. As Hagedoorn reflects, “I am a bit of a perfectionist,” and the journey to achieving the ideal pod was long and challenging. With Breukers’ expertise, they perfected the pod model and eventually founded The Pods Factory.
