Description

Becoming a cement mason is an excellent choice for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and want to build a rewarding career in the construction industry. Cement masons are responsible for mixing, pouring, leveling, finishing, and repairing concrete used in sidewalks, roads, foundations, bridges, commercial buildings, and other infrastructure projects. Most people begin by earning a high school diploma or GED, then either enroll in a construction trade program or complete a registered apprenticeship to develop practical skills in concrete placement, finishing techniques, blueprint reading, safety practices, and construction mathematics. Industry-recognized certifications, such as those offered by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), can further strengthen employment opportunities and career advancement. PTTI's Concreting, Masonry & Framing Technician Program provides approximately 26 weeks of hands-on training, covering concreting fundamentals, construction safety, masonry, and framing while also offering career services, financial aid for eligible students, and employer connections to help graduates enter the workforce. As demand for skilled construction professionals continues to grow, cement masons can advance into supervisory positions, specialty concrete work, or project management with experience and continued training. A strong technical foundation, practical experience, and commitment to safety can lead to a stable, well-paying career in the construction industry.
